GREEN INITIATIVES

At the Tata Steel World 25K Kolkata 2024, we are committed to fostering a socially inclusive and eco-conscious event. Our green initiatives are guided by the principles of sustainability, with a focus on reducing waste through the waste hierarchy - Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, and Compost.

Since 2016, we have prioritized responsible waste management at the source, in compliance with local regulations. Our efforts have been bolstered by our collaboration with Hasiru Dala Innovations, a social enterprise that supports entrepreneurship and creates sustainable livelihoods for waste pickers. Their local partner, Disha (Society for Direct Initiative for Social and Health Action), manages housekeeping and waste services during the event.

In 2022, PROCAM International was proud to be recognized with the 'Best Solid Waste Management Program in a Public-Private Partnership Model' at the Business World Recycling for Greener Tomorrow Awards.

Our Eco-Conscious Initiatives

As part of our ongoing journey towards sustainability, TSW 25K 2024 will continue to uphold our commitment to minimizing environmental impact:

  • Zero Waste to Landfill: TSW 25K 2024 is a 100% waste-managed event, ensuring that no waste ends up in landfills.
  • Encouraging Refill Stations: Runners are encouraged to bring their own water bottles to refill at stations available at the venue.
  • Paper Consumption Reduction:
    • Online registrations
    • Digital handbooks for participants
    • Email and digital communications
  • Plastic-Free Bib Distribution: Bibs will be distributed without any plastic packaging.
  • Sustainable Event Kit: Reusable backpack bags will be given out at the Expo, and paper bags will be used for event kitting.
  • Reusable Post-Event Bags: Post-race refreshments will be provided in reusable cloth bags.
  • Bicycle-Friendly Access: Bicycle stands will be available at YMCA and Town Ground, encouraging participants to bike to the event.
  • Waste Segregation: Waste segregation at source will be enforced with designated bins for Dry, Tetra, PET, and Wet waste.
  • Composting: Organic waste will be composted at facilities managed by Disha, while PET bottles and plastics will be recycled.
  • Recycling of Paper and Cardboard: All paper and cardboard waste will be recycled.
  • Water Conservation: Leftover water from bottles will be collected, stored, and used for watering trees in the neighborhood.
  • Food Redistribution: Excess edible food will be donated to the underprivileged through organizations like Little Sisters of the Poor.
  • Repurposing Branding Material: Event branding materials will be upcycled into roofing sheets, medium sheets for street vendors, and shopping bags for the Sundarbans and surrounding areas.
  • Transparent Waste Management Reporting: A detailed report on waste management will be published on our website post-event.
  • Digital Signage: We reduce the need for printed banners and posters by using digital branding at the start and finish lines.
  • Virtual Run Option: To further reduce carbon emissions, we offer a virtual run, allowing participants to join from their own cities and reducing travel impact.

By continuously evolving our green initiatives, we aim to set new benchmarks in sustainability while promoting health, fitness, and community involvement.
